Hello, my name is Zachary Alcibiades Xavier Valley, but you can call me Zac. I am 25 years old and a first year student at Danville Community College majoring in the General Engineering and Computer Aided Drafting & Design program. I am originally from Baltimore, MD where I attended Calvert Hall College Preparatory School. Baltimore City was rich with history, culture and art which allows one to see the larger picture of life if they care to. My hometown will always have a special place in my heart but when I was 19 we moved to the Outer Banks North Carolina where I spent a lot of time deciding what I wanted to do with my life and what I wanted out of it. The move changed my perspective on the world and made me think about the more important things in life then just the immediate things that I wanted. Five years later had earn me a career as a chef working for very popular and high-class restaurant but I wasn't enjoying myself and felt unfilled. I had become content to living in a tourist town surviving off of unemployment 7 months of the year, but I wasn't the only one who felt this way both of my parents had had it with the Outer Banks. By this time my family and I moved again to Southwest Virginia to take over a failed vineyard and turn it into a family home so my parents could finally retire and take care of themselves. Since then we have been running the farm and slowly turning it into a horse farm and family home. This was a huge undertaking due to us lacking the proper equipment for maintaining a farm and re-Designing it, so all the labor fell unto me and my parents and several hand tools. Through all this I started to realize I wanted to make a impact in the world and be a successful person to take care of the ones that have taken care of me and it finally dawned that my calling was to pursue a life as an Engineer. My father was an electrical engineer and he had many wonderful experiences with his career. Hailing from Alaska and being raised in Montana and after he left the navy he started off working for IBM at the forefront on computers back when a single computer took up an entire room compared to now where a computer can fit into the palm of your hand. Eventually he went to work for himself designing exhibits in museums. He designed libraries for presidents, worked with National Geographic and even had exhibits displayed in the Smithsonian. My father was an innovator and a leader in his field and I will always strive to be just like him. So I hope you have learned a little bit about me and I look forward to meeting you, and remember its not necessarily about the destination its the journey that you remember.
